Posts: 11 03/08/09 14:26:38	Tags : None Hi all, I bought a chest insignia and a couple of captain rank pins on ebay from these guys and i have concerns that the chest insignia may be a recast. The listing states that the insignia is the one by Lincoln Enterprises however the one i recieved has an absolutely horrendus paint job which leads me to think it may be a recast. I left positive feedback for the rank pins but emailed them about the chest insignia explaining my concerns to give them a chance to come clean rather than leave negative feedback but have not yet had a response. Have any of you had any experiences with them?

Roddenberry.com now has a 2 piece badge that is almost an exact repro of the original! Hope you bought two of the same sized rank pins, and not one large one for the shoulder and a small one for the sleeve... all ranks were same size pairs placed on uniforms! Brian G

Posts: 133 03/09/09 06:43:13	Yeah, so I look at the badge, the casting looks like a roddenberry, but Roddenberry paint the whole delta a flat gold color before painting, and they usually do not just slop paint on it! That thing looks pretty bad... If you want to salvage it you can strip all the paint off and repaint it with accurate colors... but honestly if you can afford to get one of the 2 piece badges from Rodd.com as below linkie! http://www.roddenberry.com/wardrobe/pins/federation-officer-jacket-insignia.html These two piece badges are VERY close to the originals... at least close to the Generations version :P Brian G

I got my pattern from Intergalactic Trading does anyone know if this is the same as the pattern from Roddenberry? If so does anyone know how i can get hold of a copy of the instruction book that goes along with it as i can't seem to find it at Roddenberry.com anywhere Cheers

I happen to have a copy myself, and I will try to make a scan copy of the thing. There is only one pattern out there for male TWOK style jackets... it is a fairly horrible pattern with many inaccuracies. I will be happy to share with you pics of my screen used jackets so you can see how things go together as well.

I feel pretty confident about correcting most of the inaccuracies such as the size of the shoulder strap, arm band etc because they are well documented on this site, its the thaught of the black braiding and fitting shoulder pad's thats giving me a heart attack at the mo!

Posts: 476 04/05/09 10:29:42 Owner	Actually the Rodd pattern is correct..BUT..and I mean a big BUT..was drafted from one of the actors uniform.(yes it's horrible)..Dimensions taken, nip and tuck here and there, then cut apart after use..unfortunatly who ever tore this uniform apart (we all know who did it) to make the pattern, disregarded how to compensate for size and proper grading plus the angles of the tailoring for the person wearing it..If your not Shatner then this wont work well.The original TOS pattern was made from Shatners 2nd season tunic..I bet he wishes he could fit into it now But for the most the TWOK will align well To you sewing impaired, it will take some work to fit right..collar...sleeves...bodice..but you can get it right... Posts: 153 04/05/09 18:39:15	Maybe the pattern was drafted from an actual uniform torn up by the pillsbury dough woman, but I compared the pattern many time to both my original jackets and it does not match either of them, and both of them are different :P Either way, I guess it is a decent starting point, but it is not close enough for my likes... I've built 3 of these replica TWOKs, and they all turned out OK, but I just cannot get the internal padding / structuring right, so the jacket never looks quite right... BG

Posts: 477 04/05/09 21:07:04 Owner	Actually your close Brian....Lets just say there are 2 K's in JK2..And I can honestly say..The innerts are just crap..my first pattern didn't even have a lining pattern, I had to create it myself....When a pattern is graded properly the jacket stays in proportion to the size..You cant just add 1/2" all the way around and say it's a large..it doesn't work that way..What should have been done was take the original pattern drafted to a proffessional grader...they are all over downtown..I can think of a good one on 4th street right now.. Again this pattern is not for the sewing impaired..It can be fixed but a lot of work.

I have about a 36inch chest and 32ish inch waist? sleves are 31 inches, so should I just go with the medium.. thank you guys, you really do make this possible for people like me to makes these : )

Posts: 490 04/15/09 21:35:34 Owner	I would go with the medium..Once you put the outer shell together you can nip and tuck then do the inner shell..remember your nip and tuck will be in the obviouse seams like the sides and shoulders so it wont hurt the inner shell..Kind of hard to explain in words but go with the medium...
